Day 1(Wednesday) - Denver Arrival Arrive in the Mile High City. Guests who have booked their air with YMT will be met by a YMT representative and transferred to their hotel. The evening is at leisure. Hotel: Red Lion Hotel Denver Southeast (or similar accommodations)
Day 2(Thursday) - Cheyenne, WY In the morning enjoy a city tour of Denver before your tour will take you to Cheyenne Wyoming. Home to the annual Frontier Days, Cheyenne is the rodeo and railroad capital of the Old West as well as Wyoming’s State Capital. Hotel: Holiday Inn Cheyenne (or similar accommodations)
Days 3 & 4(Friday & Saturday) - Rapid City, SD Depart Cheyenne and visit the Fort Laramie Historic Site en route to South Dakota. This “grand old post,” established as a private fur trading fort in 1834, witnessed the entire sweeping saga of America’s western expansion and Indian resistance to encroachment on their territories. Indians, trappers, traders, missionaries, emigrants, gold seekers, soldiers, cowboys and homesteaders would leave their mark on a place that would become famous in the American West. On Day 4 enjoy sightseeing to Mount Rushmore National Monument well as Crazy Horse Memorial, both incredible stone carvings into the rock formations of the Dakotas. Day 5(Sunday) - Little Big Horn National Monument and Cody, WY Depart for a return to Wyoming with a first stop in Deadwood, where once “Wild Bill Hickock” and “Calamity Jane” had taken residence in the times of the Gold Rush. This frontier town still shows its Wild West charm today. We will continue our trip through the Black Hills and pass through the reservation of the Crow Indians before arriving at the “Little Big Horn National Monument” where once the Native American tribes fought with General Custer’s Army. The day ends in Cody, home to the Buffalo Bill Historical Center and the nightly Cody Rodeo. Enjoy this special Western town tonight on your own. Days 6 & 7(Monday & Tuesday) - West Yellowstone On Day 6 Visit the Buffalo Bill Historical Center this morning to learnmoreaboutthenotedguide,scout,frontiersman,showman, actor, entrepreneur, town founder and American icon. The center is not only dedicated to the life and work of William F. Cody a.k.a. “Buffalo Bill” but also shows art of and educates about the various plains Indians of the Black Hills area. This visit is a must when in Wyoming! In the late morning we will depart for Yellowstone National Park and start our sightseeing of the first National Park in the US National Parks System. You will travel the northern part of the Loop route into the park and stay overnight in West Yellowstone. On Day 7 you will spend the entire day in Yellowstone Park for an extensive in depth sightseeing of the major points: See Old Faithful Geyser erupt like clockwork, spend some time in Hayden Valley and finish the Loop road on the southern part. Day 8(Wednesday) - Jackson Hole Today drive south through Grand Teton National Park. Located in northwestern Wyoming, Grand Teton National Park preserves a spectacular landscape rich with majestic mountains, pristine lakes and extraordinary wildlife. The park’s world-renowned scenery attracts nearly four million visitors per year. We will overnight in Jackson Hole Wyoming, which is a world renown ski resort in winter and summer residence for some of the rich and famous. Hotel: Quality Inn 49er (or similar accommodations)
Days 9 & 10(Thursday) - Salt Lake City, UT Before we depart to Utah, you will have an opportunity for some optional adventure fun on the Jackson river! Why not join your fellow travelers on a river rafting adventure? There will be a silent water cruise or slightly rougher river rafting trip to choose from. Either way you will be able to enjoy beautiful scenery and have fun at the same time. Say good bye to Wyoming as we travel south to Utah for Salt Lake City. The evening is yours to enjoy in a city with beautifully illuminated buildings and plenty of dining options. Thursdays are the traditional nights of rehearsal for the world renowned Tabernacle choir and perhaps you will have an opportunity to listen in on it (subject to availability). On Day 10 you will spend the day with local sightseeing of the area. First your driver guide will take you to the Great Salt Lake. The Great Salt Lake is one of the most asked-about tourist destinations in Utah. A remnant of the massive ancient Lake Bonneville, the lake is now landlocked and its waters are salty. It is the largest lake between the Great Lakes and the Pacific Ocean, and it is the largest saltwater lake in the Western Hemisphere. Afterwards we will visit the Kennecott Copper Mine, one of the largest copper mines in the world, visible from space! Learn during an impressive tour all about copper mining and its importance to the US. Return to Salt Lake City in the afternoon and perhaps join your fellow travelers on an an optional excursion with dinner to Park City, home of Salt Lake City’s Olympic park. After a tour and sometime in the Olympic museum you will enjoy a nice dinner in company before you retire for the night in Salt Lake City again. Day 11 (Saturday) - Vernal, UT From Salt Lake City we will drive further West to the Utah/Colorado border and will end in Vernal. This area is home to the largest excavations of Dinosaurs in the world and still today ample proof can be found that these giant creatures roamed these lands. Exposed rock in this area reveals more geologic time than you will see in the Grand Canyon. Within an 80-mile radius of Vernal, evidence of much of Earth’s history is visible. You will visit the Utah Field House of Natural History State Park Museum, which is a 22,000-square foot structure built to preserve and reveal the wealth of prehistory found within Utah. Stroll around in the Dinosaur Garden, a prehistoric zoo of full-size replicas ranging in age from Pennsylvanian through Pleistocene. The garden includes a 20-foot Tyrannosaurus with six-inch, knife-like teeth, a horned Triceratops, six-ton Stegosaurus, winged Pteranodon and other full-size prehistoric animal replicas. Day 12(Sunday) - Dinosaur National Monument and Steamboat Springs As we leave Vernal we head to nearby Dinosaur National Monument, where plenty of fantastic dinosaur remains are still visibly embedded in the rocks. Today, the mountains, desert and untamed rivers flowing in deep canyons, support an array of life. Petroglyphs hint at earlier cultures. Whether your passion is science, adventure, history or scenery, Dinosaur National Monument offers much to explore. We will visit the exhibits at the newly re-opened Quarry Visitors Center(Since October 2011) with its famous wall of 1500 fossils. You will have opportunity to walk the 1⁄2 mile long Fossil Discovery trail and explore the vast variety of fossils on your own. An astounding experience for laymen and experts alike! As we leave Utah we near the Rocky Mountains from the West and will stop for an overnight in beautiful Steamboat Springs Colorado. We will arrive in the early afternoon, in time to take a fun Gondola ride to the peaks of Mt Werner for breathtaking views (optional). Day 13(Monday) - Rocky Mountain National Park and Denver Your last day on this tour has reserved beautiful Rocky Mountain National Park as a befitting finish on this portfolio of beautiful American Landscapes. We will drive through the park on Trail Ridge Road, also known as the “highway to the sky”. After stops at the most beautiful vistas, you will have opportunity for lunch on your own in beautiful Estes Park before we descend again to Mile High City for your last night. Day 14(Tuesday) - Return Home It is time to bid farewell to newfound friends, as your tour ends today and you will return home. You will surely take home beautiful memories and plenty of photos from this wonderful journey.
