Day 2(Sunday, December 30, 2012) – Optional Tours to J. Paul Getty Museum or Reagan Library - YMT Exclusive evening event with Float Viewing in Pasadena: Today spend your morning at leisure, or you may decide to join a YMT optional tour to the Getty Museum or the Reagan Library. Towering high over Los Angeles and offering spectacular views of the city, at the Getty Museum you’ll be able to view world renowned works of art including those by Van Gough, Monet and Cezanne. Alternatively, you may choose to head to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, home to over 50 million pages of Presidential documents as well as the retired Airforce One plane from his Presidency. Set in beautiful grounds, the library is also the final resting place of the President where you may pay your respects.
After you have returned to your hotel, this afternoon we head out to Pasadena, home of the Rose Parade where we will give an exclusive and unique insight into the history of the Parade and the world of float building. We will start with YMT’s own VIP presentation on the history and the traditions of the Rose Parade, presented by the organizers of the Parade itself: The Tournament of Roses Committee. Among many things, you will learn about the Parade’s history, its volunteers the “White Suitors” and the rules for float building. Next we’ll take you to the Rosemont Pavilion to view the floats up close in the making. At this exclusive YMT event, with just a day to go before the parade, you will be able to feel the tension “to complete it all” as work continues round the clock. Almost as exciting as viewing the Parade itself, this is an amazing experience only available with YMT. During the event we will have an included dinner.Hotel: Radisson Hotel Los Angeles Airport or similar
Day 3(Monday, December 31, 2012) – Los Angeles City Tour: Today we will take you on a city tour of Los Angeles and Hollywood showing you the many facets of the “City of Angels.” Along the way, view the City’s Music Center with the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and the modern Disney Hall. Head into Hollywood and see Mann’s Chinese Theatre–famous for its permanent collection of handprints, footprints, and signatures from a multitude of movie stars, including Elizabeth Taylor and Marilyn Monroe–as well as the Academy Awards’ home, the Kodak Theatre, and the Hollywood Walk of Fame. You will surely not want to miss the photo opportunity of the world famous Hollywood sign! Then, head into Beverly Hills and Rodeo Drive to see where the stars shop. We will return to the hotel in the early evening to give you enough time to prepare for a very early departure to the Rose Parade the next morning.

Day 4(Tuesday, January 1, 2013) – The 124th Tournament of Roses Parade: There’s nothing like viewing this parade in person! Approximately 47 million Americans will watch the parade on TV, but you will join the nearly 700,000 spectators in Pasadena! Watch in wonder from your reserved seats in the YMT grand stand as the floats, spectacularly decorated with millions of colorful flowers pass by. This year’s theme promises an especially spectacular Parade with a whimsical twist. “Oh, the places you’ll go!” after the Dr. Seuss children’s book. The entire surface of each float is covered with different varieties of flowers, seeds, bark, leaves and other natural materials. Their 2.5 hour presentation will be accompanied by the best marching bands from across the country, entertaining you with music, dance, flag waving and acrobatics – truly a spectacle that you must see in person at least once in your lifetime!

Please note that this is a proposed itinerary; the actual itinerary may vary due to season, special events, or weather. Because our tour arrangements are often made a year or more in advance, YMT Vacations reserves the right to alter the itinerary. Itinerary changes are made to improve your vacation experience, as well as respond to any unforeseen circumstances that mandate alterations.
Note: By their nature, all tours vacations involve a certain level of physical activity. While YMT tours have been designed with our guests in mind and are not physically demanding, this tour does include walking and periods of standing during the sightseeing visits. You will also encounter steps and some uneven ground along the way, particularly at older, historical sights.
