With an abundance of natural beauty and diverse wildlife, Alaska certainly rivals some of the most breathtaking vacation destinations around the globe. While there are innumerable locales in the Frontier State that can impress even the most experienced traveler, Glacier Bay may stand out above the rest.
Even before Alaska became a state in 1958, the area around Glacier Bay was well known for its striking scenic vistas and captivating place in nature. In fact, the Glacier Bay National Park is so remote, there is no road access, and it can only be reached by plane or cruise ship.
Among the highlights of the park is the famous Margerie Glacier. Immense at 350 feet (100 of which is below the water), the Margerie Glacier is one of the most popular destinations for its beautiful blue coloration and its unique, jagged appearance.
Glacier Bay is also one of the most unique national parks in the world in terms of wildlife. Visitors will certainly leave having found a greater appreciation for nature as it is home to creatures including the majestic grizzly and black bears as well as lovable acquatic dwellers such as sea otters and humpback whales. Catching a glimpse of any of these will certainly be a memory that will last a lifetime.
