Tour Ends: Lyon, France

Day 1 & 2

Fly to Paris, France

After your overnight flight, arrive in the “City of Lights.” Guests who have booked their air with YMT will be greeted at the airport and transported to their hotel. Tonight, join your fellow travelers for a welcome dinner at your hotel, with the rest of the night at leisure. (D)

✦Mercure La Defense or similar

Day 3

Full Day Sightseeing in Paris

This morning your Tour Director will take you on a comprehensive city tour of Paris. See the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe in the center of the Etoile (Star) where 12 avenues come together in a big traffic roundabout. Marvel at Montmartre with the Cathedral Sacre Coêur, see Notre Dame, and learn all about the rive gauche and rive droite sides of Paris. The afternoon is at leisure for you to explore the city on your own. (B)

✦Mercure La Defense or similar

Day 4

Paris to Dijon

This morning, see the Court of Versailles where once the Sun King reigned, followed by his two successors and the famous Marie Antoinette. Take a self-guided audio tour through the palace; see the Hall of Mirrors and the Grand Apartment, then perhaps spend some time in the splendid gardens before some free time to enjoy lunch on your own nearby. Then it is off to Burgundy. The city of Dijon with its elegant medieval and Renaissance buildings is your home for the night. After the included dinner tonight, perhaps enjoy an evening stroll on your own. (B, D)

✦Mercure Dijon Centre or similar

Day 5

Dijon and Beaune to Lyon for Embarkation

A short drive this morning leads to the beautiful village of Beaune where two highlights of Burgundy await. Explore the astonishing world of France’s favorite condiment, Dijon Mustard. Visit the familyowned Faillot mustard factory and learn all about the many varieties of the original. Then, visit the Hotel Dieu, arguably one of the finest Renaissance buildings in the world. It is also one of the most fascinating historic museums of Europe. Continue to Lyon where the crew of the A-ROSA Stella waits to greet you with a complimentary rose for your cabin, as is A-ROSA tradition. Settle into your cabin and explore the ship before dinner. At around 9:00 PM the Stella will leave the port and take you on a panoramic cruise of Old Town Lyon. (B, D)

Day 6

Viviers (1:00 PM–7:00 PM)

After settling in to your cabin on the Stella and enjoying the morning on the river, your first stop is picturesque Viviers. Located in the Rhone Ardeche region where the two rivers briefly merge, the beautiful walled city is home to a cathedral dating back to the 12th century and an ancient bridge dating back to the 3rd century. (B, L, D)

Day 7

Avignon (1:00 AM–12:00 PM)

Ringed by incredibly preserved 800 year old stone ramparts, graceful Avignon’s turn as the seat of papal power bestowed upon the city a treasury of magnificent art and architecture. Enjoy a full day and evening in town and marvel at the history of this place. Avignon will also be the starting point for an optional excursion into the lavender regions of Sault and Senanque. Purple as far as the eyes can see and a heavy lavender scent in the air, that is Provence at its best! (B, L, D)

Day 8

Arles (Arrive 8:00 AM)

After quiet overnight cruising, wake up in beautiful, colorful Arles. Even if you have never been here before, you are sure to recognize pictures of it. Vincent van Gogh painted Arles in 187 of his works. Long before Van Gogh, the Romans had discovered Arles’ beauty and made it their provincial capital. The impressive Amphitheater is one of the main attractions today that is best explored on foot. (B, L, D)

Day 9

Arles (Depart 9:00 AM) and Port St. Louis (12:30 PM–7:00 PM)

This morning, the Stella leaves Port St. Louis, your southernmost stop on this tour. Here, the salty sea is in the air! The Mediterranean is in front of the ship’s bow and the sea salt production of the famed “fleur du sel” gourmet salts is close by. Excursions to the wild horses of the Camargue from here are highly recommended. Take in the charm of the south before it is time to sail northbound again. (B, L, D)

Day 10

Tournon/Tain I'Hermitage (4:00 PM–9:00 PM)

The tour so far has paid homage to almost all French gourmet products but one: wine! Saving the best for last Tain l’ Hermitage is said to be the pilgrimage of wine lovers and known to be the birthplace of Syrah. Take in the beautiful sights of the hilly vineyards and venture out for some tastings. A little train is available to take a guided tour through the vineyards. And if wine is not your delight, perhaps chocolate is - you will find plenty at the cite du chocolat by Valrhona. (B, L, D)

Day 11

Lyon in Port (Arrive 7:00 AM)

This morning return to Lyon with ample time to explore this beautiful city while the Stella stays in port. The old town “Vieux Lyon” features Renaissance houses and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city is known for its high-quality silk products and the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière, which sits above the city. Wander into town on your own, or perhaps take a bike tour along the river or use your onboard credit to enjoy a massage!

Day 12

Disembark in Lyon and Depart for Home

It is time to say goodbye to the crew of the A-ROSA and return home from Lyon Airport.

Note: Some of the sightseeing and visits included in this tour require up to 2 hours of walking and some periods of standing. Steps, stairs, and uneven ground will also be encountered on occasion. This does not pose a challenge to most guests, but should be considered when booking.
