Day 2

Los Angeles

Today you have the option to visit one of several iconic attractions in Los Angeles (at additional cost) or spend the morning at leisure. Choose from the Getty Center, the Ronald Reagan Library or perhaps a visit to the retired Space Shuttle Endeavor and the California Science Center. In the evening, enjoy a private float viewing at the Pasadena Rosemont Pavilion, and learn the history and traditions of the Rose Parade at YMT’s exclusive event presented by the Tournament of Roses Committee. The evening includes a casual dinner. (D)

Los Angeles

Today you will tour Los Angeles and Hollywood, getting a glimpse into the many sites within the “City of Angels.” Along the way, view the Music Center with the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Chinese Theatre, Dolby Theatre and the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Then visit the famous Beverly Hills to see where the stars shop.

Day 4

Pasadena

Today you will enjoy the 130th Tournament of Roses Parade! There’s nothing like viewing this parade in person! Watch in wonder from your reserved seats in the YMT grand stand as the floats, spectacularly decorated with millions of colorful flowers pass by. The entire surface of each float is covered with different varieties of flowers, seeds, bark, leaves and other natural materials. Their 2-hour presentation will be accompanied by the best marching bands from across the country, entertaining you with music, dance, flag waving and acrobatics – truly a spectacle that you must see in person at least once in your lifetime!

Day 5

Santa Barbara, Solvang, and San Luis Obispo Area

Visit Santa Barbara — the “American Riviera” of California and enjoy its Spanish mission style architecture. Situated along the "El Camino Real," this once humble mission post has developed into an upscale seaside resort and university town. Most likely due to moderate Mediterranean climate, it has become a popular weekend getaway destination for many Angelenos. Continue to Solvang, a Danish community with plentiful specialty bakeries and unique wine shops. End the day in the Pismo Beach/San Luis Obispo area.

Day 6

Monterey

Today the scenic highlight awaits: a tour up the coast along famous Highway One! In the morning, tour famous Hearst Castle, offering splendid views of the coast, the vast and beautiful former estate of media mogul William Randolph Hearst. Then, head to Carmel via Big Sur, enjoying breathtaking views, surely among the most scenic routes in the United States. Overnight in Monterey, the birthplace of John Steinbeck’s “Cannery Row.” Enjoy the evening at leisure in this former fisherman’s community. Note: Access to Big Sur and scenic Highway One is dependent upon repair of Pfeiffer Bridge, which has been closed for reconstruction since early 2017. At the time of print of this catalog, the reopening of the bridge is forecasted to be in September 2017 and should not impact the planned scenic routing of this tour. If in the unlikely event the bridge has not been opened in time, an alternate route will be taken but guests will still be able to visit all major sightseeing points.

Day 7

San Francisco

This morning, enjoy the rugged scenery of the Monterey coast and head to the 17 Mile Drive. Enjoy views and a photo opportunity to snap a picture of the famed “Lone Cypress” before traveling to San Francisco. End the day in Fisherman’s Wharf by the waterfront, where you will stay for three nights. Perhaps join your fellow travelers on a night tour of the city followed by a dinner in famed Chinatown.

Day 8

San Francisco - Alcatraz Visit

Today, you will discover the “City by the Bay” during a comprehensive city tour combined with an included visit to the notorious prison island “The Rock – Alcatraz.” During your city tour, you will cross the Golden Gate Bridge, see Nob Hill, catch a glimpse of famed Lombard Street, and see many more exciting sights. Afterwards, you will take the ferry to Alcatraz. Situated on a “rock” just off the coast, the federal penitentiary that operated here from 1934 to 1963 brought a dark mystique to its location. The presence of infamous inmates like Al “Scarface” Capone and Robert Stroud, renowned as “the Birdman of Alcatraz,” helped to establish the island’s notoriety.

Day 9

Depart for Home

Today your vacation comes to an end, but you'll depart home with new friends and memories to reflect on for years to come! If you purchased air with YMT, your transfers to the airport will be included.

Please note that this is a proposed itinerary; the actual itinerary may vary due to season, special events, or weather. Because our tour arrangements are often made a year or more in advance, YMT Vacations reserves the right to alter the itinerary. Itinerary changes are made to improve your vacation experience, as well as respond to any unforeseen circumstances that mandate alterations. By their nature, all tours vacations involve a certain level of physical activity. While YMT tours have been designed with our guests in mind and are not physically demanding, this tour does include walking and periods of standing during the sightseeing visits. You will also encounter steps and some uneven ground along the way, particularly at older, historical sights.
