Bunratty Castle a keeper of Irish history
Situated on the banks of the Ratty River in southern Ireland, Bunratty Castle stands as a testament to the lengthy history of the Emerald Isle. The large stone structure has been a mainstay in the tiny village of Bunratty for almost 600 years and has become a staple of escorted Ireland vacations.

The current castle was built in 1425, and although it was restored in the mid-1950s, much of it has remained the same since the 15th century. The castle has changed hands numerous times over the years including during the Irish Confederate Wars, and was later used as a barracks for colonial era police forces in the 19th century. Today it is host to medieval banquets and performances from the famous Bunratty Castle Entertainers.

The area surrounding Bunratty Castle contains a number of popular tourist destinations including Folk Park. This replica village gives visitors a glimpse at what life was like in 19th century Ireland. The living museum is known for having an operational pub and gives visitors an opportunity to tour houses replete with authentic period furniture.
