There are a number of famous cities located along the romantic Rhine, and a cruise down the iconic German river is not complete without a stop in Bonn. One of the hubs of international relations in Germany, Bonn is also offers visitors a rich cultural history and a bevy of picturesque buildings.

The best-known structure in the city is the Bonn Minster, which is more than 800 years old. With a series of towering steeples, the tallest of which reaches 315 feet, the famous church is a staple of Bonn and has served numerous important roles over the centuries. In fact, at one point it was the cathedral for the Archbishopric of Cologne.

The Bonn Minster was built between the 11th and 13th century on the graves of Cassius and Florentius - the two patrons of the city. The church is flush with exquisite artwork including an enormous statue of St. Helen.The south transept is a highlight as well, and features a number of murals as well as an alabaster relief that depicts the Baptism of Christ.

Architecture enthusiasts will certainly be impressed as well, as the church is one of the few buildings to seamlessly blend both Romanesque and Gothic influences.
