March 24, 2011 - 3:28am
River Shannon
Ireland is overflowing with interesting attractions to see in many of its famous burgs. Travelers who are heading to the European nation should consider visiting the city of Limerick, as there are a number of intriguing historical sights in the popular tourist destination.

One of the main hot spots for visitors is the city center, where they can find King John's Castle and St. Mary's Cathedral, constructed in the 12th and 13th centuries respectively. The castle overlooks the beautiful River Shannon and was once the home of the Viking sea-king, Thormodr Helgason. The church is a beautifully made structure and is also the oldest building still in daily use within the city.

Another attraction in the downtown area is the Hunt Museum, which features more than 2,000 artifacts that detail the history of Ireland and other European countries. Guests will see items from the stone age, as well as artwork by Picasso and Leonardo da Vinci.

Make sure to take a camera along for a tour of the area, as the view of the River Shannon at sunset is quite spectacular, especially along the Sylvester O'Halloran Bridge.
