Admission to the Abbey is included. When you cross the bay to tour the site, which consists of a Gothic Benedictine abbey and tiny village built between the 11th and 16th centuries, don’t forget to look up. There is a golden statue of the Archangel Michael, who is said to have convinced a local bishop in the 8th century to build a holy site in his honor in this exact spot. This evening, guests are invited to enjoy an included 3-course meal together back at the hotel. (B, D)

Next, take an included video-guided tour of the breathtaking royal Château of Amboise that was built in ancient Roman times as a mighty fortress, and was transformed into a royal residence for Renaissance kings and their illustrious guests. Paris via Orléans

Your final day in France promises to be full of experiences you’ll cherish forever. First, take a guided tour of Chambord Castle. After lunch on your own in Orleans—which was liberated from the English by legendary teen Joan of Arc in 1429 — take an audio-guided tour of Chartres Cathedral. The stained-glass windows, moving use of light, potent symbolism, and classically Gothic architectural elements such as flying buttresses and soaring ceilings make it France’s ultimate high church.
