Introduction

This fall tour has it all: historic Western towns, out-of-this-world intrigue in Roswell, Native American culture, the incredible beauty of the desert, stunning sunsets and of course, the spectacle of the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta.

Enjoy hundreds of colorful balloons soaring at once, floating over the picturesque Sandia Mountains in the quiet morning. The colors are luminous and rich while the technique, skill, and timing is precise. In the evening, you walk among the balloons as the propane burner’s twinkle and illuminate the aircrafts against the black sky backdrop. It happens every autumn in gorgeous New Mexico at the world’s biggest Balloon Festival, The International Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta

Before or after the festival, we will then take you on a journey to discover the Southwest. Enjoy the great food, and experience the rich and complex history of this hidden corner of America. Albuquerque

Your tour begins with arrival in Albuquerque. Guests who have purchased airline tickets from YMT Vacations will be welcomed in the baggage claim area by a YMT representative who will arrange your transfer to the hotel. If you made other flight arrangements, please make your own way to the hotel.

Day 2

Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta

Get up early to witness the famed Hot Air Balloon Fiesta’s mass ascension. See hundreds of colorful balloons inflate with giant fans then slowly rise to float into the clear blue sky. Learn the history of this unique Fiesta, and the simple mechanics of hot air ballooning, while witnessing it with your own eyes. As you proceed for some Albuquerque sightseeing, keep an eye peeled for these balloons – as they land in the most unexpected places! We explore historic Old Town - secluded gardens and patios nestled between winding brick paths full of charming shops, galleries and delicious New Mexican cuisine (meals on your own). The Old Town Plaza has been the focal point of the community since 1706. At night we return to the balloon launch site for the “After Glow,” when all the balloons fire their burners at the same time, illuminating the night sky. This event is followed by a spectacular fireworks display that you will surely enjoy to watch.

Day 3

Bandelier National Monument & Albuquerque

In the morning we will cross the Santa Fe National Forest and continue to Bandelier National Monument. Bandelier protects Ancestral Pueblo archaeological sites within a wild and beautiful landscape and connects the modern Pueblo people to their past in a monument covering 33,000+ acres and over 70 miles of trail. The day ends in Santa Fe.

Day 4

UFO Museum & Roswell

This morning we head to Roswell, best known for the Roswell alleged UFO sightings. Guests can enjoy a short visit to the International UFO Museum & Research Center, with its eclectic collection of space objects and dioramas depicting the story of the purported 1947 UFO crash just outside town.

Day 5

Carlsbad Caverns

This morning we drive south through the Chihuahuan Desert, filled with prickly pears, chollas and agaves, to visit incredible Carlsbad Caverns National Park, with 100 of the largest caves in the world. These limestone caverns were formed 250 million years ago - the stalagmite and stalactites that abound in this subterranean world are truly a wonder to explore. At night we will return to Roswell once more.

Day 6

White Sands National Monument & Las Cruces

See the unusual and beautiful White Sands National Monument! After an orientation at the Visitors Center, we drive through wave-like dunes of gypsum sand – brilliant snow-white dunes whose color changes with the sun and topography.

Tombstone & Tucson

Continuing west this morning, we will cross into Arizona in the afternoon. In the morning, travel through ranches and towns that claim a colorful history of Apache raids, outlaws and gunfights, stopping in the most famous of them all – Tombstone! Walk the same historic streets as Wyatt Earp and Doc Holiday, which are preserved with their original 1880’s buildings. See the famed OK Corral, the Tombstone Epitaph newspaper office, Crystal Palace and the Boothill Graveyard – the last home to the famous and infamous. Then upon arrival in Tucson, we will visit the San Xavier del Bac Mission. Known as “the White Dove of the Desert,” it is considered one of the finest examples of mission architecture in the USA.

Casa Grande National Monument & Phoenix

Today, we depart the “Sunshine City of the Southwest” for Phoenix, the “Valley of the Sun.” En route we will stop to explore the ancient Native American ruins at Casa Grande National Monument, our nation’s first archaeological preserve.

Phoenix

Today you will have a full day to explore on your own or join one of our optional tours. Take an optional Sunrise Balloon Flight yourself! Take in the fresh air as you glide in a balloon over the beautiful and just awakening flora fauna at sunrise. Alternatively, you may decide to join in an optional visit to Old Town Scottsdale to shop and browse the art galleries. The rest of the evening is at leisure; perhaps you’ll want to join your group for a rustic cowboy style dinner (optional and at an additional cost).

UFO Museum & Santa Fe

This morning as a nod to Roswell’s pop culture fame, best known for the Roswell alleged UFO sightings, we will pay a short visit to the International UFO Museum & Research Center, with its eclectic collection of space objects and dioramas depicting the story of the purported 1947 UFO crash just outside town. Then we travel along the Santa Fe Trail National Scenic Byway, then through the wide-open spaces and big skies to southwestern New Mexico. We will arrive in Santa Fe early afternoon, just in time for a leisurely lunch on your own in the beautiful historic center or some self- guided walking through the city’s charming southwestern art galleries and shops.

Bandelier National Monument & Albuquerque

Autumn Leaves Tour

Introduction

Imagine traveling through the heart of America’s history while witnessing the kaleidoscopic spectacle of fall colors in the Northeastern United States.  Our 14-day Autumn Leaves Tour takes you from Philadelphia to Gettysburg, Niagara Falls, along the shores of Lake Ontario, through the Adirondacks, the Green & White Mountains, Boston, Cape Cod, Bridgeport, New York City and back into Philadelphia against a backdrop of the rich colors of fall. 

Our tour begins where our nation began, in historic Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - the cradle of American liberty, where you will see Independence National Historic Park, the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall and Franklin Court.  Next you will travel through the colorful fall scenery of picturesque Pennsylvania Dutch Country stopping at an Amish outpost to learn about this traditional way of life before visiting historic Gettysburg, Pennsylvania - the most important battlefield of the Civil War.  You then continue north through Pennsylvania and New York State, stopping at the Corning Museum of Glass which showcases spectacular pieces of glass art and conducts demonstrations of glass blowing. 

You will need to bring your passport on this tour as you will cross the Canadian border to the awe-inspiring Niagara Falls where millions of gallons of water spew over the horseshoe-shaped falls creating a powerful sight and sound.  The tour continues along the shores of Lake Ontario to Kingston, home to Ft. Henry and the Royal Military College of Canada.  Then we take to the water on an included 2.5 hour boat cruise through the 1000 Islands enjoying a fascinating narrative of the area’s history and views of the fabulous summer homes of the rich and famous including Boldt Castle. 

Our tour then crosses back into the U.S. and travels through the colorful fall foliage of the beautiful Adirondacks with a stop at Lake Placid, site of the famous “Miracle on Ice” when the US men’s hockey team defeated the Russians in the 1990 Olympic Winter Games.  We then journey through the breathtaking Green and White Mountains stopping to visit Franconia Notch State Park and the magnificent Flume Gorge.  Turning south, the tour heads into Boston, Massachusetts and where you will enjoy a city tour including following the Freedom Trail, seeing the Boston Common and the Paul Revere House.  Next you follow the New England coastline to Cape Cod and visit the Cape Cod National Seashore with its pristine beaches, lighthouses and wild cranberry bogs.  There you will have the chance to join fellow travelers for an optional tour to Martha’s Vineyard before heading into Rhode Island for a visit to one of the famous Newport Mansions. National Parks of the Golden West Tour

Introduction

America’s National Park System is the envy of the world, and on our 14-day National Parks of the Golden West Tour, experience its magnificence when you visit 9 different US National Parks.  Most people only get to see one or two of these parks in their lifetime; seeing so many of them on one tour makes it an exceptional opportunity.

Our tour begins with your arrival in fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada with leisure time to enjoy the endless entertainment opportunities. Take a chance at a card game or one-armed bandit, visit a show or simply relax at your hotel. Then the tour is off to see Natural Wonders and it is only befitting to start with a bang: one of the seven Natural Wonders of the world- the majestic Grand Canyon National Park. Enjoy an overnight stay inside the park giving you the opportunity to witness this awe-inspiring landscape both at sunset and sunrise.  Next, discover the sacred Monument Valley  Navajo Tribal Park the Navajo Nation’s equivalent to a national park.  Travel west to visit Zion National Park with its massive sandstone cliffs of cream, pink and red en route to the astonishingly red glowing Bryce Canyon National Park showing off it’s intricate limestone rock formations created by erosion called “hoodoos."  The journey then heads northeast through picturesque Capitol Reef, Arches and Canyonlands National Parks enjoying the stunning vistas of naturally formed sandstone cliffs, arches, canyons, domes and bridges throughout.

Majestic Lake Tahoe awaits with 72 miles of pristine shorelines making it the largest alpine lake in North America.
