Combine a first-class beach resort with a city that has an illustrious, colonial past and you have Mazatlán. Founded in 1531, the city
was developed into a thriving commercial seaport by German immigrants who arrived mid-19th century. Mazatlán’s fortune came from importing equipment for the nearby gold and silver mines. The German settlers also in uenced the local music “banda,” an alteration of Bavarian folk music, as well as the beer culture, by founding the local and now world famous Pacifico brewery.
Cabo San Lucas (7:00 AM–3:00 PM)
Cabo’s signature landmark is El Arco (“The Arch”), a rock formation at the tip of “Land’s End.” The jewel of the Baja Peninsula is famous for its world-class sport shing, as well as its high-end resorts and exclusive gated communities that line an area simply called “the Corridor.” Once sought by pirates for its safe harbors, the Los Cabos region of the Southern Baja Peninsula is now home to the bustling towns of San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas. Snorkeling gear, boats, wave runners, kayaks, paddle boats and windsurfer boards are available for the active vacationer.
