Your first full day in Europe promises to be an enjoyable one! This morning, take a city tour of Brussels, which will take you through some of the city’s most famous landmarks. Main attractions include the historic Grand Place, Manneken Pis, Atomium, and cultural institutions such as La Monnaie and the Royal Museums of Art and History. Brussels is a fantastic city to explore, making stops at cafes, museums, flower markets, and stunning historic buildings. Let your mind wander as you take in one of Europe’s most welcoming and scenic capitals. (B)

Day 4

Bruges Chocolate Factory Tour

Today we continue to Bruges for a chocolate factory tour. Belgium has been renowned for its exquisite chocolate since the 19th century, in large part because quality control is a matter of national concern. Belgian chocolate must, by law, consist of at least 35 percent pure cocoa, and refining, mixing and conching must be done inside the small country’s borders. This ensures high quality chocolate whose flavor and texture go unmatched anywhere in the world. During the tour, enjoy a lecture from a master chocolatier and a tasting! As a special gift to you, each guest will receive delicious chocolates to take home— they may be too good to share, so be sure and purchase some for your loved ones in case! (B, D)

Day 5

Transfer to Cologne for Embarkation (Depart 4:30 PM)

This morning, transfer to Cologne to embark the A-ROSA Flora, your home for the next 5 nights. Per A-ROSA tradition, you will be greeted with a red rose from the ship’s crew.

Day 6

Cochem, Germany (9:00 AM–2:00 PM)

Perhaps the most iconic site of the Moselle Valley is Cochem's Reichsburg Castle. Situated on a precipitous rock high above the town, the castle dominates the landscape. The town of Cochem itself is a sight worth seeing, as well. Enjoy its narrow streets and twisty alleys, the lovingly restored half-timbered houses with traditional slate roofs, and the historical marketplace.

Day 7

Bernkastel (1:00 AM–11:00 PM)

Bernkastel-Kues are scenic twin villages in the heart of the middle Mosel region. Called “The City of Vine and Wine,” Berkastel-Kues boasts a beautifully preserved old town with half-timbered houses from the middle ages. The surrounding hills are just as memorable, with terraced vineyards and the 13th century Landshut castle, whose imposing ruins loom large over the picturesque village below.

Day 8

Trier, Mehring (6:00 AM–6:30 PM)

Trier is the oldest city in Germany and a treasure trove of Roman ruins. Known as the “Rome of the North,” it was part of the Roman Wine Route, and still has numerous Roman structures for you to visit. Explore the amphitheater, the ruins of Barbara thermal baths, and UNESCO World Heritage Site the Porta Nigra, or the bounty of beautiful places to eat and enjoy local wine in town.

Day 9

Koblenz (3:00 PM–10:00 PM)

Arrive in Koblenz, where the Rhine and Moselle converge. With over 60 medieval castles overlooking its winding banks, the River Rhine valley is one of Europe’s most breathtaking landscapes and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Quaint little villages are nestled alongside the majestic river, while never-ending vineyards flank the hillsides.

Day 10

Disembarkation in Cologne (Arrive 6:00 AM)

Return to Cologne to disembark and say tschüss to the crew of the Flora. Your day continues with an informative city tour of one of Germany’s most important metropolitan regions. You'll learn about this former Roman province and influential medieval and Renaissance era trade base that was nearly wiped out during WWII. Virtually all of Cologne’s buildings were built after the war, and the landscape is characterized by simple and modest post-war buildings, with just a few pre-war buildings that were either rebuilt or miraculously untouched during Allied air raids. Don’t miss the spectacularly spired Cathedral Church of Saint Peter, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Germany’s most visited landmark. In addition, we recommend partaking in Kölsch, Cologne’s official beer, served in a traditional 200ml glass, called a Stangen, while you’re here. “Zum wohl” means “to your health,” and is a very common toast. (D)

Maritim Hotel Königswinter or similar

Day 11

Depart for Home

Enjoy a final breakfast at your hotel before boarding your flight back to the United States. (B)
