Welcome to Hong Kong, one of the world's most cosmopolitan cities where East truly meets West.

Hong Kong City Tour and Embarkation (Depart 11:00 PM)

Enjoy an included tour of Hong Kong, a British colony until its transfer to China in 1997. Modern Hong Kong is an important business center and one of the world's most influential cities. Take a ride on the iconic Star Ferry across Victoria Harbor, and then board one of the world's steepest funicular railways, the Peak Tram, to enjoy spectacular views of the skyline, the harbor, and the city’s green hillsides. Your tour continues to the famous fishing village of Aberdeen, with an included sampan boat ride, and finally to Stanley, a popular market town on the south side of Hong Kong Island. Late this evening, transfer to your floating hotel, Holland America Line's ms Westerdam. (B)

Shanghai, China (8:00 AM–6:00 PM next day)

You have two days to discover Shanghai. Situated on the estuary of Yangtze River, this is China’s largest and most prosperous city, whose multiculturalism has given the city a unique glamour and signature architectural style. Chinese Art Deco is the perfect mix of Eastern and Western influences, with classically Chinese flourishes including upturned flying eaves and traditional motifs that peaked from the 1920’s to 1940’s. Shanghai’s art deco mustsees include the Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the Bund—noted for its glamorous Long Bar—the Bank of China Building, and the Bank of Communications Building. Highlights also include the French Concession (a French territory of the city until 1946), Old Shanghai, the Shanghai Museum’s collection of ancient Chinese art, and the Pudong area, famous for its skyscrapers and night time light show.

Qingdao, China (8:00 AM –6:00 PM)

Qingdao is a modern city that has managed to retain its historic charm over the centuries. China's most livable city is known for its German architecture, like St. Michael's Cathedral, winding cobbled streets, attractive coastal landscapes, and local folklore. Don't miss the Tsingtao Beer Museum, one of the highlights of today's port stop!

Tianjin (Beijing), China (8:00 AM–2:00 PM next day)

Stay overnight in Tianjin, the gateway to Beijing, one of the world's great ancient capitals. This must-see city is home to some of the finest evidence of China's imperial past, including the Forbidden City, the largest and best preserved ancient architectural complex in the world. Though Tianjin often plays second fiddle to Beijing, this city has a number of important cultural sights of its own, including the Confucius Temple, the Tianjin Museum, and the Shi Family Mansion.

Dalian, China

Dalian has earned a reputation as one of China’s most easygoing and livable major cities. With a prime location right on the Liaodong Peninsula, visitors love the relaxing beaches, diverse restaurants that specialize in Dalian’s world-famous seafood, and excellent shopping.

Nagasaki, Japan (8:00 AM–3:00 PM)

Situated in the northwest of Kyushu on one of Japan’s largest islands, Nagasaki is an extremely cosmopolitan port city with a fascinating history and picturesque harbor in use since the 16th century. The city is home to many shops and restaurants, as well as numerous cultural and historic attractions.

Disembarkation in Yokohama (Tokyo), Japan and City Tour (Arrive 7:00 AM)

After disembarkation, enjoy an included city tour of Tokyo. Visit Imperial Palace Plaza in the center of Tokyo, and walk the stunning grounds full of trees, flowers, and moats. From Kokyo Gaien National Garden in front of the Imperial Palace, enjoy views of the Nijubashi, the pair of bridges forming an entrance to the inner palace grounds. The tour continues to Asakusa Temple, one of Tokyo's most colorful Buddhist Temples, and its lively shopping arcade with typical Japanese souvenirs such as kimonos, folding fans, and traditional snacks.

Yangtze River cruise ships: Victoria Cruises' Victoria Jenna. All on board accommodation is superior cabin (Victoria Jenna) with private facilities. All of our tours feature cruises aboard the Victoria Jenna. Victoria Cruises have an excellent reputation and specialize in serving North American guests and, like YMT, are members of the United States Tour Operators Association. The Victoria Jenna takes up to 266 guests and ship facilities include 2 restaurants, 4 elevators, 2 lounges, 3 bars, a gym, library, and a beauty salon. Please note that the river cruises have a recommended additional crew gratuity of $25 p/p USD which is additional and will be added to your on board account.

Activity level: Some of the sightseeing on this tour requires extended periods of walking and standing, walking over rough or uneven ground, climbing steps, several airplane flights, getting on and off boats and buses and generally navigating busy tourist sites. While this shouldn’t pose a challenge to most guests, please consider before booking that this is an active tour.
 
Included meals: Hotel breakfasts will generally be a mix of Chinese and international dishes. All lunches and dinners stated in the itinerary will be in local restaurants (eg. outside the hotel) and will be Chinese dishes. In Beijing and Shanghai, western style food is generally available (at your own cost); however in other areas, availability of western style food may be very limited. The Yangtze River cruise restaurants can be buffet or waiter service with Chinese and some international food.
