Day 1

Depart for Hong Kong, China

Arrive in Hong Kong, China

Welcome to Hong Kong, one of the world's most cosmopolitan cities where East truly meets West.

Day 3

Half-day City Tour and Embarkation

Enjoy an included tour of Hong Kong. Take a ride on the iconic Star Ferry crossing Victoria Harbor and continue to one of the world's steepest funicular railways, the Peak Tram. See spectacular views of the skyline, the harbor, and green hillsides. The tour continues to the famous fishing village of Aberdeen with an included Sampan (boat) ride and then finally to Stanley, a popular market town on the south side of Hong Kong Island. Then, transfer to your floating hotel, Holland America Line's ms Westerdam. (B)

Day 4 & 5

At Sea

Enjoy two days at sea and explore what the ms Westerdam has to offer. Choose from the many activities like the BBC Earth Experience.

Day 6 & 7

Shanghai, China (8:00 AM–6:00 PM next day)

Shanghai, Hu for short, is a renowned international metropolis, a fast-paced and ever-evolving city. Situated on the estuary of Yangtze River, it is also the largest and most prosperous city in China. In addition to its modernization, the city's multicultural air endows it with a unique glamour. You have two days to discover the perfect blend of the modern and the traditional, and the western and the oriental. And don't miss the chance to browse through Shanghai’s bustling markets.

At Sea

After two exciting days in Shanghai, lean back and relax aboard your ship. How about a visit at the Greenhouse Spa & Salon?

Day 9

Qingdao, China (8:00 AM–6:00 PM)

Qingdao is a modern city that kept its historic charm. China's most livable city is known for its German architecture - like the St. Michael's Cathedral - winding cobbled streets, attractive coastal landscapes, and local folklore. Don't miss the Tsingtao Beer Museum, one of the highlights of today's port stop!

The daily newsletter outlines various shipboard activities and the ship’s experienced crew is at your disposal to help with suggestions to spend this day at sea.

Day 11 & 12

Tianjin (Beijing), China (8:00 AM–5:00 PM next day)

Overnight stop in Tianjin – gateway to Beijing. One of the world's great ancient capitals and a must-see is home to some of the nest remnants of China's imperial past, including the Forbidden City, the largest and best preserved ancient architectural complex in the world. Also visit Tiananmen Square and see the mausoleum of Chairman Mao. Nearby Beijing you can also visit sections of the Great Wall of China, one of the world’s true wonders.

Day 13

At Sea

Reminisce on your exciting visit to China as your ship makes its way to Japan. Explore one of many dining choices aboard your ship.

Day 14

Nagasaki, Japan (12:00 PM–8:00 PM)

Nagasaki is unquestionably most known for its place in the WWII and atomic bomb history, and a visit to the museums, monuments, and memorials of the atomic devastation should not be missed. But this now vibrant and charming city also offers ancient history with its temples, shrines, and churches. Be sure to stop by Glover Garden for some of the best views in Japan.

Day 15

Kagoshima, Japan (8:00 AM–5:00 PM)

Today's port is often compared to its Italian sister city, Naples, due to a similarly mild climate and palm tree lined streets. The historical city is watched over by the looming bulk of Sakurajima, an active volcano. Take a trip to the small town of Chiran with its preserved samurai district with houses and gardens that date back about 250 years.

Day 16

At Sea

One more day at sea before your cruise comes to an end. Make sure to check out all amenities aboard before you depart for your land tour.

Day 17

Disembarkation in Yokohama (Tokyo), Japan and Half-day City Tour

After disembarkation, we will take you on an included city tour of Tokyo. Visit Imperial Palace Plaza, located in the center of Tokyo and immersed in natural beauty by the surrounding trees, flowers, and moats. From Kokyo Gaien, the large plaza in front of the Imperial Palace, you get to view the Nijubashi, two bridges that form an entrance to the inner palace grounds. The tour continues to Asakusa Temple, one of Tokyo's most colorful Buddhist Temples, and its lively shopping arcade with typical Japanese souvenirs such as kimonos, folding fans, and traditional snacks.

Tokyo, Japan Leisure Day

Today, enjoy a full day in and around Tokyo and decide yourself how to spend it! Stay in Tokyo or join one of YMT's day tours. (B)

Depart for Home
