Exploring Bari is a great way to spend a vacation
The sea is an ideal venue for senior travel. Cruising to a foreign destination allows travelers to experience not only the beauty of new places and people, but also the wonders of aquatic world all around them. Those sea-faring travelers booking Europe tours this winter may want to explore a city well versed in all things oceanic as they head to the Old Continent, and few cities fit that bill as well as Bari, Italy.

Located in the heel of the Italian boot, Bari is the capital of the Puglia region and lays directly on the Adriatic Sea. While the city is largely known for its universities and its connection to Saint Nicholas, Bari is one of the country's most important port cities and boasts a proud naval heritage because of it.

Tourists will definitely want to spend some time exploring the city's ancient area, known as Bari Vecchia. The medieval quarter features a number of classic buildings and churches that reflect the numerous cultures and eras that have embraced the city, like the Romanic Basilica of Saint Nicholas or the Baroque Cathedral of Saint Sabino.

If one steps outside the city, they can also explore the beautiful ancient structures of the city of Matera or the natural wonders of the Castellana Caves.
