A filme festival is a gateway to a better cultural understanding
Ireland has long been a popular destination for travelers keen to get some culture in a laid back and beauteous environment. For those travelers hoping to gain a better understanding of modern Irish culture, a stay in the city of Cork could make for an eye-opening experience as the city hosts its annual Film Festival beginning on November 7.

Now in its 55th year, the Cork Film Festival provides a venue for up and coming Irish filmmakers to showcase their talents before an international audience. The event asks professional, amateur and student filmmakers to produce new features, shorts and experimental films that best convey the lifestyle of modern Ireland. What results is "an eclectic mix of bug budget pictures, world cinema, innovative independent films, documentaries and short films," according to the event's website.

The prestigious festival has grown quite popular over the years, and the short films competition has recently opened up to a wider array of filmmaker, with prizes being offered for Best European Short and Best International Short respectively.

Travelers passing through Cork on affordable Irish tours in early November will have many chances to participate in the festival, as the event runs from the 7th-14th.
