Umbrian countryside a Central Italian gem
Jutting out into the temperate waters of the Mediterranean Sea, Italy is the ideal destination for many vacationers looking for a relaxing and enriching experience. They will definitely find it when they tour the Umbrian countryside, which is home to some of the most beautiful and unique landscapes in the world.

Situated in the center of Italy, the Umbria region is dominated by breathtaking hills and mountains that will serve as the backdrop to a relaxing visit. Perhaps most impressive of all is Monte Vettore. At a shade over 8,000 feet tall, this mountain is the highest point in the region, and although its ragged summit is only accessible to the most experienced climbers, casual vacationers will appreciate the rolling green hills and clear, calm skies surrounding the peak.

Umbria is also home to some smaller towns that should not be overlooked. In particular, Assisi is a sightseer's dream as it contains a wealth of historical buildings and other structures. Visitors don't have to be a Roman history buff to appreciate the Basilica of San Franceso d'Assisi. Built in 1253, this iconic building is not only a perfect example of early-Gothic architecture, but its frescoes and other paintings are renowned for their beauty and intricacy.
