Vacationers who are heading to Greece on their next vacation should not miss out on the chance to visit Aegina, a historic destination that is part of the Saronic Gulf Islands located near the capital city of Athens.

Aegina Town was actually the original capital of Greece and is now a popular place where residents of Athens go on holiday in order to escape the hustle and bustle of the city life. It offers beautiful seaside views and is a great place to take the family for swimming, shopping and a number of recreational activities.

There are fascinating ruins in Aegina, such as the temple of Aphaia. This attraction is accessible via a taxi or motorbike. Perched atop a hill, once visitors make the ascent they can look out to the Aghia Marina, which is located on the east coast of the island.

To get a taste of the local culture, travelers can head over to Perdika (Greek for "partridge"). This fishing village boasts gorgeous waterfront views where visitors can see the Methana peninsula and the Moni island.
