YMT’s Activity Levels

Whatever your level of fitness or ability, we offer a YMT Vacation to match. All tours, by their very nature, offer some level of activity; whether that means getting on and off various modes of transportation or navigating tourist sites on foot. To make it easy to understand what this means in each of our packages, we’ve created an activity level scale that will help you to decide if a tour is the right fit for you.

Of course, there are some things we can’t control. Many historic sites restrict access to motorcoaches, for example. So, walking in instances like these may be inevitable.*

We always try to provide as much up-to-date information as possible, but please bear in mind that these are broad guidelines, and if you have any questions about a particular tour, our Guest Services team will be more than happy to address these during the booking process.

Relaxed

  • Very Active

Traveling at a leisurely pace, a relaxed tour requires a small amount of physical activity. Depending on the itinerary, you will need to be prepared to board a plane, bus, boat, ferry, or ship. There will be some walking to rooms, cabins or restaurants, and general points of interest. This may also include some steps, and an occasional flight of stairs during transfers and stops.

Easy Going

  • Relaxed
  • Easy Going
  • Moderate
  • Active
  • Very Active

This kind of tour requires light physical activity combined with shorter travel days. Activities may include an occasional walking tour, with stops included along the way. You should feel comfortable climbing a set of stairs, be able to walk up or down slight slopes, and have confidence in navigating some uneven terrain or cobblestone.

Moderate

  • Relaxed
  • Easy Going
  • Moderate
  • Active
  • Very Active

On this tour type, you should be prepared to walk slightly longer distances, and be able to climb stairs (these may be steep and/or uneven). You should be comfortable with periods of standing, for example on city walks, sightseeing stops, or ship excursions. The daily pace and timing can fluctuate significantly between longer and shorter travel days, with additional activities which may occur in the early morning or evening. There may be some changes in altitude or temperature.

  • Very Active

To take full advantage of all that an active tour has to offer, you must be able to walk longer distances, be able to climb several flights of stairs (these may be steep and/or uneven) and feel confident navigating uneven terrain or cobblestone. Your itinerary could include significant changes in temperature and/or altitude, and may require extended travel days with additional morning and/or evening activities.

Very Active

  • Relaxed
  • Easy Going
  • Moderate
  • Active
  • Very Active

Likely to feature many attributes of our active level, this is very much an on-the-go tour with a complete itinerary involving a full, often daily program of travel, sightseeing, or events. You MUST be comfortable navigating steps, stairs and uneven terrain. This is our fastest paced tour, where free time at leisure will be limited, in some cases this will only be in the evenings. Your itinerary could also include significant changes in temperature and/or altitude.

*If you’re unable to stand or walk without assistance, you must bring a companion to help you and supply any items such as wheelchairs yourself. Ensure you discuss your requirements with our Guest Services team when you call to book. Active and Very Active tours are not recommended for wheelchair users.
