The Eurostar train travels through the Channel Tunnel, which is the longest underwater tunnel in the world, stretching approximately 31.4 miles (50.5 kilometers) between the United Kingdom and France. The tunnel reaches depths of up to 75 meters (246 feet) below the sea bed. Construction of the Channel Tunnel, often referred to as the “Chunnel,” began in 1988 and it officially opened in 1994. It is considered one of the greatest engineering feats of the 20th century and allows passengers to travel between Paris and London in just over two hours.
A Tip To Prep For Your Trip
On the day you take the Eurostar from Paris to London, be ready for a 10-15 minute walk with your luggage from the bus drop-off point to the Eurostar check-in area. Boarding the Eurostar is similar to airport check-ins, and only those with a valid ticket can access the boarding area. Passengers must carry their luggage themselves, as there is no porterage service available. Make sure your ticket is easily accessible and be prepared for the physical activity of managing your luggage. Remember, there are no staff available to assist with your bags, so pack accordingly and ensure your luggage is manageable for you to handle on your own.
