Cruise Through Panama Canal Details

Take a Panama Canal cruise to witness for yourself one of history’s most impressive feats of engineering—and some of California, Mexico, and Central America’s prettiest scenery. You really can have it all on this unforgettable cruise and land tour!

Your guided cruise tour begins with a stop in Cartagena, a stunning UNESCO-listed city on the Caribbean coast. From there, you’ll be awed as you cross over the legendary Panama Canal, the 51-mile passage connecting the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans.

On the Pacific side, you’ll have plenty of time to relax and soak up the rays in sunny beach towns and resort cities from Costa Rica to Mexico.

Your cruise ends in Los Angeles, where you begin you tour up the California coast. You won’t find a more dazzling spot than ritzy Santa Barbara. Known as the American Riviera, Santa Barbara is renowned for its Spanish mission-style architecture and clear ocean views.

Continuing north, you can sample a Danish pastry in Solvang in the picturesque Santa Ynez Valley, and look out for playful dolphins along Pismo Beach. History lovers will enjoy visiting the fishermen’s community of Monterey, where historical buildings bring early California to life. Colón, Panama (8:00 PM - 8:00 PM)

Sail into the Caribbean seaport of Colón, the Atlantic gateway to the Panama Canal. Don’t miss the Colón Free Zone, a massive shopping showroom where wholesalers, retailers, and the general public shop.

Day 7

Transit Panama Canal

Cross over one of humankind’s most impressive engineering feats—the legendary Panama Canal. This 51-mile artificial waterway through the nation of Panama connects the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, and fulfilled explorers’ centuries-long dream when it was completed in 1914. Enjoy this marvel of design as you pass through its series of locks over nearly 12 hours.

Puntarenas (Puerta Caldera), Costa Rica (8:00 AM - 5:00 PM)

If you are looking to experience pura vida in Costa Rica, you will savor this full day of the pure life in Puntarenas. Visit the beach, shop, gab with local ticos and ticas, and grab a meal in the Paseo de los Turistas. Be sure to order a local Churchill, the official snack of Puntarenas. This deliciously rich dessert is made of shaved ice, fresh fruit, syrup, and condensed milk.

San Juan Del Sur, Nicaragua (7:00 AM - 4:00 PM)

Welcome to Nicaragua! The country is home to some of the world’s most beautiful beaches, with long stretches of white sand and clear blue waters. San Juan de Sur is also known for its lush, tropical landscape. Take advantage of some of its many local attractions, including the nearby Lake Nicaragua or the settlement of Granada, which was founded by Spanish conquistadors.

The sleepy Puerto Quetzal showcases the vibrant colors of Guatemala’s culture away from the hustle and bustle of more populated ports. Enjoy a relaxing day in Puerto Quetzal, visit a coffee plantation, or travel to the nearby UNESCO World Heritage Site of Antigua. This elegant former capital is an incredible example of Central American colonial architecture!

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico (7:00 AM - 3:00 PM)

Puerto Vallarta is the quintessential Mexican resort town, overflowing with the charm of the old country. Narrow cobblestone streets are lined with shops and galleries. Restaurants provide shaded patios for you to indulge in authentic carne asada to the sounds of live music. Bargain for one-of-a-kind souvenirs, or wander the golden beaches of Banderas Bay.

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico (7:00 AM - 2:00 PM)

Once sought out as safe harbor for pirates, Cabo San Lucas is now the perfect place to dine al fresco or take a stroll across one of many white sand beaches. The Jewel of the Baja Peninsula’s most famous landmark is the iconic El Arco, a naturally occurring limestone arch.

Old Town Monterey’s historic buildings bring the Spanish Colonial, Mexican Colonial, and early American periods of California vividly to life. Finally, Monterey’s beaches are perfect for strolling, especially for guests hoping to run into a colony of chatty seals or sea lions.

This morning, enjoy the rugged scenery of the Monterey coast and the 17 Mile Drive. Enjoy views and a photo opportunity to snap a picture of the famed “Lone Cypress” before traveling to San Francisco.
