Day 3
Portland via Mount St. Helens
Mount St. Helens is known worldwide as the site of the deadliest and most economically destructive volcanic event in U.S. history, when it catastrophically erupted in May of 1980. Enjoy stunning views of the mountain, including the crater caused by the eruption, before continuing on to Portland. After an included lunch, the evening in Portland is yours to enjoy. Portland is famous for its gourmet donuts, using surprising ingredients and daring flavor combinations to elevate the sugary breakfast staple into something truly spectacular. Voodoo Doughnut is the most famous fancy donut shop in Portland, but Blue Star Donuts is just as beloved by those in the know. (B, L)

Travel into the thickly forested Cascade Mountains this morning to enjoy some of Oregon's most breathtaking scenery. Teeming with life, this gorgeous region of northwestern Oregon is lushly blanketed with towering old growth trees and countless lakes, rivers, and streams. Highlights of your tour include the Columbia River Gorge and Multnomah Falls, a 611-foot-tall waterfall found in the stunning Mt. Hood National Forest.
Continue to Hood River, a charming town where the Columbia River Gorge and the Cascade Range meet. Enjoy lunch on your own-perhaps at one of Hood River's popular breweries or farm-to-table restaurants. Return to Portland for a city tour and free time at the International Rose Test Garden, where you can see and smell over 650 varieties of roses. (B)
