Enjoy a leisure day in Amsterdam before embarking on the MS Symphonie and enjoy dinner onboard. The capital of the Netherlands, Amsterdam is widely considered to be one of Europe’s most sophisticated cities, and it is largely evident in the way it celebrates its past. For a perfect example, look no further than the De Gooyer Windmill, which at 87 feet is the tallest wooden mill in the Netherlands. It is the last of a large group of corn mills built between the 17th and 19th centuries on the bastions of the city walls.During your free time here, perhaps visit some of the museums devoted to Vincent van Gogh, modern street art, and contemporary art. Be sure not to miss one of the finest museums in the world, the 200-year-old Rijksmuseum. It is filled with spectacular works from Dutch masters like Rembrandt, Johannes Vermeer, and of course, van Gogh. (B, D)

Today you will enjoy a panoramic city tour of Amsterdam and you’ll visit the 79-acre Keukenhof flower garden, where you will enjoy the sights and scents of tulips in bloom. Don’t forget to visit the Orchid House, the Japanese Garden, and the 19th-century windmill on the edge of the tulip fields! Later, cruise to Nijmegen, the oldest city in the Netherlands. (B, L, D)

Explore the green heart of Nijmegen, a city known for its sustainable initiatives that rival Amsterdam! Located close to the German border, the city has a rich history dating back 2,000 years! Your next stop is Xanten (in Germany), home to one of the largest open air archaeological museums in the world. Later today, you’ll sail to the vibrant and fashionable German city of Dusseldorf. Today, you’ll proceed to Cologne, a cultural hub with the twin spires of its famous cathedral towering over the city. Known for its rich legacy of art and Gothic architecture, Cologne is a must-see destination. We recommend trying Kölsch, Cologne’s official beer, served in a traditional 200ml glass called a Stangen. “Zum wohl” means “to your health,” and is a very common toast. From Cologne, continue sailing to Koblenz, nestled at the junction of the Rhine and Moselle rivers in Western Germany. (B, L, D)

With its lush vineyards, forests and mountains, Koblenz is straight out of a picture postcard. Discover the many charms of this city including the striking Old Town, before sailing to Mainz. Known for its majestic cathedral, Mainz draws you in with its narrow alleys lined with timber-framed buildings, quaint cafes and the Gutenberg Museum, one of the oldest museums of printing in the world! Arrive in Strasbourg, a French city that is the formal seat of the European Parliament. Nestled near the German border, this city has a blend of German and French cultural and architectural influences. Continue towards Breisach later today. (B, L, D)

Located close to the Black Forest, Breisach is a scenic town on the banks of the Rhine. Take in sweeping views of the river and the sprawling town from the hilltop church of St Stephansmunster. Next, sail to Basel in Switzerland. (B, L, D)

Disembark in Basel and see its key highlights on an engaging city tour. Take in the historic Old Town with its towering cathedral and red sandstone Town Hall. Then drive to Heidelberg for an enchanting panoramic city tour and have lunch on your own before heading to Frankfurt for an evening at leisure. (B)
